Uttermost

22/05/2012  St John’s College, Durham, Communion service

Worship Leader: Jos Brtan

Preacher and presider: Leo Osborne

Scripture: 2 Cor 5:14-21, Luke 15:11-32

There are few ideas that came to me through the sermon and the scriptures; The Four Alls as the DNA of Methodism: “For all need to be saved, all can be saved, all can know they are saved and all can be saved to the uttermost.”  From the 2 Cor 5:14-21 scripture : “if any one is in Christ a new creation has come” & “That we might become the righteousness of God”  combined with the story of the lost son (Lk15:11-32).

I started with the idea that we come seeking healing and wholeness in Christ and by his cross, word and Holy spirit he heals, frees and purifies us and yet we remain in need of constant grace and so are held in God’s hands.

These hands that wrought our salvation display us as a wonder of his saving grace, a testament to his power and love, these hands also give us back into the to the world to follow in the ways of Christ and so serve the world as ambassadors of Christ.
