Mistaken Identity

16/09/2012   Waterloo Road Methodist Church, Blackpool

Worship leader and Preacher: Stuart Furnival.

Scripture: Ps 113, Lk 16:1-13

Stuart began by looking at how often we have good intentions in serving God but find ourselves distracted and miss the opportunity and in doing so we ‘short change’ God. He spoke of how often our financial concerns override our choices and he went on to challenge the congregation to be more consistent especially in the light of Christ’s love and sacrifice for us.

For me the message is heard against a backdrop of attitudes I come across in the Church, it seems that to some churchy folk the financial viability of the Church as a building is more important than anything else.  You have to wonder who their God is?

  1. PS: said with some authority, based on “Pastor’ Ray’s announcement re his personal mode of transport being a Rolls Royce: because GOD wants him to drive one….

    • I guess we can easily justify ourselves in our own eyes but find it easier to question the motivations of others. What acid test can we apply that would unveil the heart and its true motives? Jesus said “By their fruit you will know them”. So what is the fruit? What evidence is there that their motivations are rooted in God? Or ours for that matter?
