Not One Stone

This image captures that jaw dropping revelation by Jesus in response to the disciples’ awe at the sight of the temple.

“As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.” (Lk 21:6)

At the time such a statement would be akin to saying that the Houses of Parliament or Buckingham palace will become rubble and possibly considered by some as voicing the coming of an insurrection, the disruption of the status quo and the potential of a new government. Even more disturbing to the disciples is that the welcome idea of change didn’t include the temple, as part of God’s plan for the people of God. Within 70 years Jesus’ prediction concerning the temple would become a reality. In its place a living temple of faith, a holy insurrection usurping the ungodly powers at work in the world, turning the world upside down with their faith.

I’m not sure why I generated the text but it looks like it might have been a reflection of my internal reactions to what can seem like the inordinate amount of time given over in leadership meetings to discuss Church buildings compared to the meagre offering given to the actual, and most often left undone work of the Church – mission!

When Jesus talked about his Church he wasn’t talking about buildings but people who follow him, putting into practice the things he taught in regard to how we live, our values and attitudes and other such things to do with the Kingdom of God.

Its rather strange that within the month of this piece being created we would be in lockdown and our church buildings unused. I have to wonder at how the Spirit of God moves within me. Is this prophecy?
